Meet Dr. Michael Nguyen

The Personal Side

Aside from being passionate about dentistry and providing empathetic patient-centered care, he is also a professional dancer outside of the dental office. He has danced and competed with The Puzzle League and The Dream Team Dance Family all around the US. In his free time, he loves spending time with his little puppy, Chloe, playing volleyball, and snowboarding.

Q: If I let you pick the music during my cleaning, what’s your go-to vibe?

A: KPop and oldies (80s and early 2000s).

Q: If teeth had a personality, which one are you?

A: Lateral incisor because I like attention, but I don’t want to be the center of attention.

Q: What’s one thing most patients misunderstand about dental care

A: Waiting until things start hurting before doing dental treatment usually has a higher chance of complications and the need for additional, more costly appointments down the road. 🙁

Q: When it comes to patient care, do you see yourself more as a fixer, a coach, or a partner?

A: Partner—I don’t believe in forcing you to do anything, but I will be your number one advocate and cheerleader to help you receive the best possible care. Like any partnership, this requires clear, honest, tactful communication and empathy.

Q: What’s one value that drives how you treat people, inside and outside the clinic?

A: I’ve always believed in the timeless wisdom of treating others how we hope to be treated—through empathy, kindness, and genuine care. With growing awareness and open conversations around mental health, my goal is to create a safe space where people feel at ease, supported, and truly understood.

Q: What inspired you to become a dentist—and what keeps you inspired now?

A: Funny enough, it all started in 7th grade while doing a career research project. Not knowing what to do for my assignment, I closed my eyes, pointed down at a list, and my finger landed on dentist! I have stuck with it since. Over the years, I’ve been inspired by the validation from patients when I take them out of pain, or patients being able to smile again.

Q: What is one dental innovation you’re very excited about right now?

A: Lasers! There are so many applications, such as gum recontouring, removing cavities, bleeding control, removing old veneers/crowns, enhanced healing, bacteria decontamination, and more!

Professional Side

Dr. Michael Nguyen was born and raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago as a second-generation child of immigrants. He went to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he majored in Chemistry. He completed his Doctorate of Dental Medicine at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine in Illinois.
