First Dental Center is proud and honored to be involved with Smile Outreach International—applying our skills and knowledge in dentistry in a way that extends beyond the walls of our practice. Around the world, billions of people live with untreated dental disease simply because care isn’t available where they live. Smile Outreach International was created to change that by bringing volunteer dental teams to underserved communities and providing free care to people who would otherwise have no access to treatment.
During these missions, teams of volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants, and support staff work together to provide essential dental services—everything from relieving pain through extractions to restoring smiles and teaching oral health education. In some communities, people have been living with severe dental pain for years, and a single visit from a volunteer team can dramatically improve their quality of life.

First Dental Center’s Involvement
Dr. Feng and team have volunteered on SOI trips, helping treat patients who often have been waiting a long time for relief. Laura plays an important role in supporting and coordinating many of the logistics that make these missions possible. These trips require an incredible amount of organization, from gathering supplies to coordinating volunteers and building partnerships with local communities.
For the team, Smile Outreach International is more than a mission trip; it’s a community of people who believe that access to dental care is a basic human right. Seeing the relief on someone’s face when their pain is finally gone, or the confidence that comes with restoring a smile, is a powerful reminder of how much impact compassionate care can have.

Help Support SOI’s Mission
One of the most inspiring parts of Smile Outreach International is that anyone can be part of the mission. Some people contribute by volunteering their clinical skills on trips. Others help by supporting the organization financially, so that the teams serving these communities can cover supplies, equipment, and travel costs.
Donations help provide the instruments, materials, and medications needed to treat hundreds of patients during each mission. Even small contributions can make a meaningful difference—helping fund anesthesia, dental instruments, sterilization equipment, and essential supplies that allow teams to deliver care safely.
For those who want to get even more involved, Smile Outreach International also welcomes volunteers from many backgrounds. Dentists, hygienists, assistants, and students can join clinical teams, while non-clinical volunteers often help with logistics, patient coordination, and community outreach.
